The 2009 Official Community Plan (OCP) included policies for the City to create plans to help guide development or redevelopment for each neighbourhood in the City. Johnson Heights is the first neighbourhood plan to be created and community engagement will inform the plan.

About the Johnson Heights Area

Johnson Heights is located in the north east of Revelstoke. It is bounded by the railway tracks to the south and west, the Illecillewaet River to the south and Highway 1 to the north. The area currently has very little development, other than a small amount of residential, the Revelstoke campground, the Hillcrest Hotel and Mt. Begbie Brewery. The other vacant lots are in a semi-natural state with naturally occurring forests and landscape.

The area is cut off from the rest of the City by the CPR railway, which travels through the significant embankment, and separates the neighbourhood from the rest of the City. Most of the development is currently strata development with small individual mobile/modular homes as the dominant form of housing.

Johnson Heights Community Vision

Johnson Heights is a hidden gem of wild beauty, forest trails, and tranquility with a supportive community vibe. The neighbourhood is well connected to Revelstoke for walking, biking and driving and provides a diversity of services and amenities for residents and visitors.

Principles to Guide the Neighbourhood Plan

Connected community to and from Revelstoke - connected by trails and pedestrian networks as well as vehicular connectivity.

Compact community - efficient use of land and infrastructure to service development, preserve existing natural landscape where possible, and enable a more walkable community.
