ABOUT THE PROJECT

The proposed project is to undertake a review of current heritage policy and practices for the City of Revelstoke and prepare a Heritage Management Plan (HMP) for the City that includes current best practices in heritage conservation and creates a heritage program that takes into account all of Revelstoke’s heritage values. The process will examine Revelstoke’s current heritage planning initiatives and programs, Official Community Plan, the Revelstoke Station Heritage Conservation Area, design guidelines and other aspects of the City’s heritage. The plan will take a values-based approach to heritage, be developed with community engagement, include appropriate recommendations, tools, strategies and actions, and develop a plan for its implementation.

City to undertake three phases to complete the Revelstoke Heritage Program Review and Heritage Management Plan:

  • Phase 1 - Revelstoke's Historical Context
    • Community engagement, thematic framework and vision
  • Phase 2 - Revelstoke's Heritage Places
    • Review and update of the inventory and register to conform to best practices
  • Phase 3 - Heritage Management Planning
    • Overall review of the heritage situation, policies, strategies and actions to setup the heritage program, conservation tools and updating the heritage information and resources on the City website

    Moving forward with heritage in Revelstoke

    The City of Revelstoke is taking an important step toward honouring the city’s stories and places by developing a Heritage Management Plan.

    Community input is very important for creating a vision and strategies for the conservation of Revelstoke’s heritage. The Heritage Management Plan will take into account all of the features that a community thinks have heritage value, and will include strategies and tools for protection and management.


    This questionnaire is to collect the community’s ideas to understand what the heritage of Revelstoke is all about, it’s places that matter, and the future of its heritage resources.

    No question is mandatory to answer, please fill out the questionnaire to the best of your ability. Most questions are in essay format as to not limit community members ideas and comments surrounding the heritage of Revelstoke. The City of Revelstoke will not collect, use, or disclose personal information using this questionnaire. The questionnaire is voluntary and a response is encouraged but not required.
