Pearson Street Stormwater Upgrade

LATEST STATUS

Detailed design has been complete by McElhanney Ltd, following comprehensive stormwater modelling to determine the magnitude of the upgrades required to improve the stormwater system at Pearson St and mitigate the potential flooding risk to the surrounding area. Construction on the stormwater system between Second Street and Third Street is to be completed in summer, 2026.

OVERVIEW

The City’s Stormwater Master Plan (2016) identified the Pearson Street Storm main as a critical piece of infrastructure for stormwater conveyance in the City.
The Pearson Avenue / First Street intersection was identified as susceptible to flooding during major system events and recommended a design exercise to consider increasing the downstream capacity.

CONSTRUCTION LOCATION

Pearson Street, between Second and Third Street.

CONSTRUCTION IMPACT

Sections of road will require closures throughout the construction period. Notices will be delivered to impacted residents a minimum of 48 hours prior to planned shutdowns or road closures. The Contractor will coordinate with local residents impacted by road closures and access.
Expect equipment noise and increased numbers of construction vehicles. Road closures and detours will be clearly marked with traffic cones, and traffic control persons when required. Please follow all detour routes, drive cautiously, and protect our construction workers.

TIMELINE

Construction is planned to be completed in 2026. Information will be made available here once a construction schedule has been determined.
